A sextet ensemble from,
The British Paraorchestra
For the first ever performance of members of the British Paraorchestra in Bahrain, Artistic Director Charles Hazlewood curates a bespoke six-piece ensemble, performing a mixed repertoire of contemporary and classical group and solo pieces at the Shaikh Ebrahim Center for Culture and Research. This evening event will showcase the orchestra’s incredible sound, up close and personal, in a new and uniquely entertaining format.
The ensemble in Bahrain will feature Oliver Cross (Harmonica), Lloyd Coleman (Clarinet), Tom Doughty (Guitar), Paul Holzher (Guitar), Adrian Lee (Guitar), Stephanie West (Harp).
The British Paraorchestra is the world’s first professional ensemble of disabled musicians, founded by British conductor Charles Hazlewood in 2012, the same year that they memorably performed with Coldplay at the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony. Performing in the UK and internationally the ensemble is pioneering a global movement to recognise and showcase disabled musicians with extraordinary abilities. Its mission is to end the limitations placed on them, not by their physical ability, but by lack of opportunity.
Just as the Paralympics have achieved so effectively in sport, the British Paraorchestra is shifting perceptions of disability and disabled people by creating a visible platform for gifted disabled musicians to perform and excel at the highest level.
