The British Council, In partnership with Arabian Gulf University would like to invite you to attendCafé Scientifique, an informal discussion forum, where people can gather together to learn about the latest global topics in science and innovation, and in particular the subject of Water Science’s impact globally and locally. You don't have to be a scientist or science student to take part, as Café Scientifique is about the science of life and how it shapes our world. The informal, friendly environment encourages open and interesting debate, where you can offer your opinions, ask questions or just listen.
Speakers:
- Professor Edward Maltby: acquiring more than 40 years' experience in scientific research and environmental project management, providing both technical and policy advice for Supragovernment, government and non-government bodies. Formally the Chair of IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management and of the IUCN Wetlands and Water Programme and a keynote speaker at many international conferences and presenter on” Water” at the Prince of Wales Summer School 2011.
- Prof. Waleed Al Zubari: Prof. Al-Zubari currently holds the academic position of Professor of Water Resources at the Arabian Gulf University, and administratively serves as the Coordinator of the Water Resources Management Program, College of Graduate Studies. He obtained his PhD degree in 1990 in the field of groundwater mathematical modeling from Colorado State University in 1990. He has published more than 90 research papers in refereed journals, conferences, and seminars. He serves as a consultant for many international and regional organizations, including UNESCO, UNEP, UNDP, and ESCWA. He received the Award of Best Arab Researcher in the field of Water Resources from ALECSO in 2002. In 2008 published his first book on Water Issues and Challenges in the GCC (in Arabic), which received Yousif Bin Ahmad Kanoo Best Authors Prize.
