200stories
Date
Sunday 17 April 2016 - 00:01 to Thursday 04 August 2016 - 00:01

We are celebrating 200 years of relations between the UK and Bahrain. To mark this milestone we would like to invite anyone living in Bahrain or the UK to share their best Bahrain-UK memories, whether those were created here in Bahrain or in the UK. This could be anything from archival materials belonging to your family, to a very recent story of a trip or a personal encounter that marked you or that you feel symbolizes the people to people relationships between Bahrain and the UK.

The British Council has been working to create links between the people of the UK and Bahrain for over 60 years. However, exchanges between the two countries began long before that. Every day, our customers, our colleagues and our partners share their personal stories with us and Bahrain 200 is the perfect occasion to gather and celebrate these with everyone. Let your friends and relatives know by tweeting the opportunity with the #200stories hashtag!

How do I take part?

You can submit your Bahrain-UK story to events.bh@britishcouncil.org.bh in one of the following formats:

  • Photograph
  • Short video (5 minutes maximum)
  • Scanned document (PDF preferred)
  • Written story (Up to 800 words)

Note: If you did want to submit an oral testimonial, then please submit it as a video file, using power point slides or images of your choice to accompany it, as we cannot support audio files on our website.

We accept stories in English and Arabic, if you would like to submit a story in a third language then please provide an English or Arabic translation to accompany it.

What guidelines should my story follow?

All entries must be submitted online by 00:00 GST (Gulf Summer Time) by August 4, 2016, to the following e-mail address: events.bh@britishcouncil.org.bh with the subject title #200stories competition’. Winners will be announced on social media and will be notified by e-mail.

We don’t have strict guidelines as each story is likely to be different, however we do ask that materials are respectful of others’ beliefs, traditions, cultures and religions. The aim is to showcase the way that people in Bahrain and the UK have engaged, inspired and collaborated with each other in spheres such as education, culture and science.

Please make sure to read the full Terms and Conditions before submitting your story

Where will my story feature?

We will pick the top ten stories and turn them into video stories or video interviews and feature them on a special Bahrain 200 website. Additionally, winning submissions and runners up may feature in an exhibition in a primary Cultural Venue in Bahrain end of 2016.

We will seek your consent to display these materials and stories in both cases, and work closely with you on any video production and exhibition we undertake.

What do I win?

We are offering a Nikon D5200 camera as well as VIP tickets to the Yazz Ahmad concert taking place in Bahrain in October.

The top three stories will get the chance to feature in an exhibition we will hold in a primary Cultural Venue in Bahrain later this year.

When will I find out if I won?

We will announce the winners on August 6 2016.
