The British Council and Mashq Art Space in partnership with Art Jameel of Abdul Latif Jameel, are organising a three day photography workshop, titled “Re-inventing Imagery”, next week on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, 25, 26 and 28 September 2016 at Mashq Art Space in Budyia.
The workshop will be delivered by Daniel Donnelly, and will explore the topic of “Re-inventing Imagery”, which is this year’s theme for the annual Art Jameel Photography Award.
Participants will be asked to interpret the theme and share stories with each other. In addition to technical photography skills, they will learn how to write a statement and biography to participate in photography competitions, such as the Art Jameel Photography Award.
The Art Jameel Photography Award (AJPA) is one of Art Jameel’s many initiatives and an extension of the Bab Rizq Jameel Photography Award, which was launched in 2010. The award aims to provide an opportunity for talented young photographers to show their work to a wider audience, and to help them further their careers. In 2015, the award is being extended for the first time to accept submissions from all the GCC countries, as, until now it had been focussed on Saudi Arabia.
The workshop presenter, Daniel Donnelly is a British artist and photographer, currently based in Bahrain. He has a background of teaching, international development and cultural project management. Daniel is currently printing new photography book in Bahrain, and finishing on a long term project about eighteenth century garden design in the UK.
This workshop is free of charge and registration is still open.

About Re-inventing Imagery – AJPA 2015:
The AJPA 2016 photography award aims at establishing a platform of creativity through image making which will give opportunities for established and emerging artists. Artists residing in Saudi and from all over the GCC are encouraged to apply.
This year’s AJPA aims to uncover modes of production and participation in overlapping fields of culture, urbanism and social experimental photography or the use of alternative process techniques of image making. The goal is to encourage artists to break away from the familiar and commercial ways of looking at and using images through art.
