In the current month of September, the British Council is celebrating the 100th birthday anniversary of the British story writer, Roald Dahl. In light of this occasion, the British Council Bahrain is hosting the British storyteller Kevin Graal as part of a three day storytelling program for children from 20th till 22nd September in a number of venues across the island. In addition to the story telling sessions, the British Council is offering a free online course for learners and free resources for teachers on British Council’s Teaching and LearnEnglish websites

Children’s publications such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, and The Enormous Crocodile will come to life with storyteller Kevin Graal. The storyteller whose previous visits to Bahrain were a huge success will deliver six storytelling events for children and their parents, two of which will be open to the public.

In the mornings, schools children from grades 1 and 2 from Al Iman School-Girls Section, Arabian Pearl Gulf School and Al Amal Special Education Institute will be engaged in a number of storytelling sessions in their schools. In the afternoon, a special session for orphans who are supported and cared for by the Royal Charity Organization will be delivered in partnership with the Rotary Club of Salmaniya.

Residences of Bahrain will have the opportunity to enjoy the celebration via two public events in the afternoon from 4:00-6:00 p.m.; the first will take place on 20th September at Bahrain National Museum in partnership with the Bahrain Authority of Culture and Antiquities, and the second will take place at Dilmun Club in Saar, in partnership with the Club itself, on the 22nd of September.

The three-day program celebrating the work of Roald Dahl comes as part of the British Council efforts to further strengthen cultural relationship between Bahrain and the United Kingdom and to encourage children to read and to learn English.
